"Don't Allow T.B Joshua To Enter South Africa' - ANC Youths advise President Zuma!

<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The
 African National Congress Youth League has called on the Jacob Zuma-led
 South African government not to issue a visa to the General Overseer of
 the Synagogue of All Nations, Pastor Temitope Joshua.<br /><br />The Pastor
 had expressed on Sunday his desire to visit South Africa to commiserate
 with the families of 84 citizens of the country who lost their lives 
when a building of the church collapsed in Lagos on September 12.<br /><br />About
 115 people died in the tragedy and Joshua had described those who lost 
their lives as martyrs to the consternation of South Africans.<br /><br />But
 reacting to Joshua’s desire to visit South Africa, the spokesperson for
 the ANC Youth League, Bandile Masuku, said, “TB Joshua should not be 
allowed to come to South Africa until we know what happened to our 
fellow countrymen at his church.<br /><br />“We will make sure we engage 
with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation to make 
sure they do not issue him with a South African visa.”<br /><br />A South 
African Newspaper, City Press, which reported this on Tuesday, had 
reported that about 115 people, including 84 South Africans, were killed
 and dozens trapped when the multi-storey guesthouse attached to the 
church collapsed.<br /><br />About 350 South Africans were said to be visiting the church in the Ikotun neighbourhood of Lagos, at the time.<br /><br />Meanwhile,
 the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, has called on the Lagos State 
Government to apply the full weight of the criminal law against anyone 
found culpable for the collapse of the Synagogue building collapse.<br /><br />The
 institute called for a thorough investigation into the incident, adding
 that the probe should not be limited to the owner of the collapsed 
building, but also to the approving agencies.<br /><br />The National 
President, NITP, Chief Steve Onu, who said this at a news conference on 
Tuesday in Abuja, noted that the enforcement of relevant laws and 
appropriate sanctions against errant builders would serve as deterrent 
to those that love cutting corners when building.<br /><br />He said 
building collapse was not the fault of planners but that of developers 
who cut corners, noting that many government buildings did not also meet
 standard town planning requirements.<br /><br />He said that states were 
fond of not employing professional town planners while local government 
councils retained and promoted ill-trained urban development workers, 
adding that it was only the Federal Capital Territory that had a 
building tribunal in the country.<br /><br />Onu said, “If what has happened
 is considered a criminal act, criminal law should be pursued to its 
conclusion; there is a penalty for negligence, so they should carry out 
proper investigation even up to the approving agencies. Somebody is 
supposed to ensure that that building does not continue. So the 
government investigation should not be limited to Synagogue.<br /><br />“As 
much as possible, the searchlight should be extended to the approving 
agencies. Did they give approval? The people who built, did they build 
according to approval? If they did not give approval, then it is an 
illegal structure. So, whatever penalty the law says in respect of 
illegal structure, should be followed.”<br /><br />The NITP President 
predicted that the coastal areas of Lagos would experience massive 
flooding in the future on account of the land reclamation carried out by
 the developers of the Atlantic City project.<br /><br />This, he said, was 
because research had shown that the ice glaciers were melting, noting 
that this had resulted in the rising of the ocean with concomitant 
flooding of coastal areas globally.<br /><br />“The Atlantic city project 
will pose flooding challenges for settlements along the coastal area, it
 will lead to massive flooding in the future. These people (project 
handlers) are insensitive to the possible problems the reclamation would
 cause through ocean surge. They would just wake up one day and find 
that everywhere is flooded,” Onu stated. </span></span>

reach height of power and achievement which should not be restricted to 
any caree<br /><br />Okafor explained that actors are the best people among 
politicians, saying that they have been involved in various roles and 
movies that depict the realities of life.<br /><br />“I believe I will also 
join politics, I want to impact on the life of the people, whether House
 of Representatives, Senate or even governorship position, after all RMD
 is not doing bad,” Okafor said.<br /><br />The President also made 
reference to other actors in the Western World like Ronald Regean and 
George Murphy who had made progress as actors and politicians.<br /><br />Mr Joshua Ejiro, a resident of Karu, Abuja, also said that Nigerian actors go into politics for the money and fame.<br /><br />Ejiro
 explained that average Nigerians like money and recognition, so he did 
not see why actors’ involvement in politics should be controversial.<br /><br />Mr Monday Odeh, a businessman in Utako market, Abuja, commended Nollywood for the progress they were making in politics.<br /><br />“I
 strongly have the conviction that they will do better because all that 
happens in politics had been acted by them, even combining the two will 
not be bad at all,” Ode said.<br /><br />Similarly, Tope Ajayi, a Sociology 
student, University of Jos, said that she believed Nollywood actors do 
not really know what they wanted.<br /><br />Tope urged actors to bring 
those flaws in the country’s politics into acting as a way of showcasing
 and correcting it, rather than leaving it for something else.<br /><br />“It
 is unfortunate that people see politics in this country as the final 
bus-stop of fulfilling their life ambitions and making easy money,’’ 
Ajayi said.<br /><br />Some of the actors in the Nollywood have declared their intention to run on the platform of different political parties.<br /><br />Nigerian actress like Kate Henshaw is contesting under PDP for the House of Representatives in Cross River.<br /><br />Others
 actors include Emmanuel Udokwu, for House of Representatives under 
APGA, Anambra, and Desmond Elliot, House of Representatives under APC, 
Lagos State, among other artists.</span></span></div>

'Why Bride price Is Very important in Marriages!'

<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The
 average Nigerian wedding today takes four phases basically, which 
obviously does not mean getting married four different times to four 
different persons, but to the same person in four different ways, as 
dictated by religion, culture, tradition, and civil law.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br />In
 Yoruba Land, the Introduction Ceremony (Mọ̀n-mí-n-mọ̀n-ọ́) is the First
 Phase. Families of the intending couple formally meet for acquaintances
 and assert their consent to the proposed marriage. Some are done in a 
living room setting with strictly the nuclear or immediate extended 
families in attendance, and for some others, only the paying of Bride 
Price separates this from the proper engagement ceremony. During many 
Introductions these days, the groom and his friends prostrate severally 
to the bride’s family (signifying a plea to marry their daughter), 
intending couple cuts the cake, spokespersons usually referred to 
“AlágaÌjókó” representing the bride’s family and “AlágaÌdúró” standing 
for the groom’s side are used, gifts such as fruits, wine and drinks are
 exchanged and so on.)<br /><br />The Second Phase is called The Traditional
 Wedding i.e. The Engagement (Ìdána), which showcases the couple in 
their traditional attire; with virtually a replication of all that had 
occurred during the Introduction, paying the Bride Price and all other 
dues, and also bringing Engagement Items (“Ẹrù Ìyàwó”) as demanded by 
the Bride’s Family e.g. 42 Tubers of Yam, Kolanut, Bitter Kola, Wine, 
Luggage Box (definitely not an empty one), Bags of Salt, Sugar and 
Honey, to mention a few. These are all meant to be warmly received by 
the Bride’s Family.<br /><br />Surprisingly, a recent wind of returning the 
Bride Price to the groom’s family has swept across the land; in the 
light of not selling the Bride (I wonder where this unstylish vogue came
 from). Bride Price is slowly but surely becoming alien and unwelcome in
 the 21st century, because the practice is misconstrued as such a 
dehumanizing practice to women, especially from a Western philosophical 
point of view. Parents perceive that their daughters are being 
maltreated by wicked husbands on the excuse that they have been paid 
for, like a “commodity”.<br /><br />And while many blame this derision on 
families that take advantage of the Bride Price to make outrageous 
demands, others believe that how a man treats his woman may not 
necessarily depend on whether or not he paid her Bride Price, but 
greatly on his personality. Saying men maltreat their wives because they
 paid their Bride Price is like saying the expensive diamond engagement 
rings also produce women-beaters in the West. Jacob served 14 years as a
 Price to marry Rachel; a “Bride Service” that portrayed the value he 
placed on her – which is what the token called Bride Price is all about.<br /><br />In
 this contemporary era, it appears many are not aware that the Bride 
Price serves to protect the marriage from dissolution. It is NOT 
degrading to women and does not reduce them to slaves; not in any way 
tantamount to making a man feel like a slave master who owns a slave he 
has paid for. In actual fact, Bride Price is an instrument to ratify a 
marriage. It is one of the highest honours confirming a bride’s value 
and womanhood; giving a husband the full rights to the sexual, economic,
 or procreative powers of his wife. It fosters a friendly relationship 
between the two families; providing a material pledge that the woman and
 her children will be well treated and a level of compensation to her 
natal family for the loss of her company and labour.<br /><br />It is most 
often a matter of social, cultural, symbolic and economic reciprocity, 
being part of a long series of exchanges between the families. A symbol 
of sincerity and good faith connected with a woman’s reputation and 
esteem in the community. A token that highlights a degree of commitment 
and chivalry in a man and shows he does not only value his bride, but 
also holds a high regard for her family. No amount of money can buy a 
wife; her value is inestimable in human terms. No man can pay for all 
the input of those who raised a good woman and all the benefits she 
brings; her love, care, help and companionship far outweigh any monetary
 value. A Bride Price is a humble demonstration of appreciation, honour 
and respect to the bride’s family for all the work they put into 
raising/training “this” gift from God and returning it seems utterly 
disrespectful to the groom and his entire family. Where a man’s treasure
 is, his heart will be also; paying the Bride Price of a woman 
symbolises that a man has kept his treasure (money from his sweat) where
 his heart belongs.<br /><br />Needful to say, in some cultures, a marriage 
is not reckoned to have ended until the return of Bride Price has been 
acknowledged, signifying divorce. When a woman intends to leave her 
husband, she is expected to return the goods initially paid to her 
family. So before you decide to return the Bride Price on your 
daughter’s wedding day, consider that this is often done when a marriage
 is to be dissolved. Bride Price is our heritage; a genuine and 
deep-rooted customary practice that makes marriages more meaningful and 
prevents the despicable way of life where wives are extremely easy to 
find like stones, and equally easy to dispose of, like tissue paper.<br /><br />The
 Court Wedding is the Third Phase: This is the only form of wedding 
recognized by law; a legal licence for a woman to take up her man’s name
 and officially become “Ìyàwó Alárédè” (Legal Wife). This, in most 
cases, is only attended by direct relations and some friends. But if the
 couple intends to skip Phase Four, this might be the “big deal”.<br /><br />Finally,
 Phase Four happens in The Church: This is the one all the other three 
above eventually lead to. No thanks to Cinderella, Snow White and the 
Seven Dwarfs, Aladdin, Anastasia and all the fairy-tale cartoons that 
have stirred the fantasies of many little girls of someday marrying a 
Prince in a Castle garbed in a flowing white dress, with all the 
shimmering splendour all over them. This is where a minister claims to 
represent God and joins the two together in matrimony by a Holy 
Ordinance. As many believe, this phase of the wedding takes place before
 God and Man, and the couple’s name is written in the Heaven Book of 
Marriages (I have absolutely nothing to prove that that book exists).<br /><br />Some
 centuries back, on the engagement night, the man and his new bride go 
into a special room already prepared with a new sparkling white spread 
on the bed for him to “know” her for the first time. After the 
“knowing”, he presents the white bedspread to representatives of both 
families waiting to see the result. A bloodstained bedspread signifies 
he “met her at home”, which brings immeasurable joy and pride to the 
couple and their families. Otherwise, shame and despair, a stigma that 
never lifts from a home where such occurs.<br /><br />King Solomon wrote 
about this in his Songs: “We have a little sister, and she hath no 
breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be 
spoken for? If she be a “wall”, we will build upon her a palace of 
silver: and if she be a “door”, we will in close her with boards of 
cedar.”<br /><br />A positive result was always a thing to celebrate. My 
grandmother told me lots of food and drinks were available on the day 
she faced this once-in-a-lifetime test, but no one could lift a morsel 
until the result was out. She significantly pointed out how chastity 
took conscious, calculated and dedicated efforts and purity was ensured 
by all means, knowing well that the “night of wonder” was coming. Every 
lady guarded her pride with all diligence and kept it for the man who 
truly deserves and earns it – by prostrating and paying the (Bride) 
Price. Men were confident that their time, efforts and resources were 
not going into “baskets”. And I am sure God did bless those marriages, 
even though they didn’t wear black suits and white dresses to religious 
houses or courts to be joined.<br /><br />Recently, a preacher said to a 
couple: “… hope you don’t think marriage has occurred after your 
traditional wedding? Until you both appear on the altar for blessings, 
God does not recognize your marriage.”<br />While some believe God only 
approves unions that take place in His House(s), many others feel 
strongly disheartened that we have extolled the foreign ways of getting 
married and undermined ours by saying God doesn’t recognize them. It was
 not recorded that Father Abraham, Isaac, Jacob or any of our biblical 
forebears were joined to their wives in a temple; they only sought the 
consent of their wives’ families, like today’s engagement ceremony, and 
they were married. The controversy stands, however, that the formal ways
 of marriage (Religious and Court) came from the Western world, and 
their high record of dismal state of marriages is a reason good enough 
for us to hold on to our traditions instead of discarding them. After 
all, nothing makes our parents’ blessings during the traditional wedding
 inferior to the ones we get from other people on the other platforms.<br /><br />Chastity
 keeps going bananas and frivolity is dressed up like a norm.Though 
everyone has the right to choose how (s) heweds, but disdaining our 
wedding culture appears to have done more harm than good. Nothing checks
 anymore, unlike the “dark” age, where every lady had in her 
subconscious the day she will face the world to be declared either a 
wall or a door. These days, indecency is curbed when the ushers give the
 confetti ladies scarves to cover their hot legs and save our beloved 
from seeing “misleading” visions, but the real indecency is what happens
 when no one is watching. You can spend eternity covering the body from 
men, but how successful can you be covering the heart from God? And I 
sincerely hope nobody thinks this encourages nudity.<br /><br />It is also 
alarming and heart-breaking, how some families end up wallowing in debts
 to satisfy the pressure of having to do these four different ceremonies
 for the singular purpose of being referred to as Mr and Mrs, especially
 when they cannot afford it. While we all want the glory, glamour and 
glide that come with elaborate and multiple wedding ceremonies, I 
strongly believe God expects us to cut our coat according to our cloth. 
When less emphasis is placed on showing off and impressing people who 
don’t even give a monkey what you eat the next day, you sign up for a 
more comfortable and convenient life. Consciously sticking to affordable
 budgets supersedes giving in to the selfish interests of anyone who 
doesn’t even love you enough to make sure life is bearable for you after
 you say the inevitable “I do”. Be it religious, legal or traditional, 
the wedding is only an ignition, and marriage is the journey to the 
destination of a fulfilled life. The fact that some marriages go down 
the drain shortly after an earthshaking wedding ceremony proves the 
married life deserves more dedicated attention and input than the 
wedding day. Extolling weddings over marriages is like spending lavishly
 on house warming when you have not even bought a piece of land, let 
alone lay a foundation.<br /><br />“For which of you, intending to build a 
tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have 
sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, 
and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 
saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish.”</span></span></div>

 divorce several times before they finally separated.<br />

The Chairman,
 Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Thompson Sekibo has said that 
members of the Senate will not be intervening on the death
 verdict handed to 12 soldiers for mutiny by a military court on 
September 16th.<br />

Senator Sekibo who spoke with 
journalists after a
 closed-door meeting between the senate committee on Defence and the 
Service Chiefs at the National Assembly in Abuja yesterday September 
23rd, said the verdict of the military court is meant to instill 
discipline into the military. </div>

 we are not, because the Armed Forces are established by an Act of the 
National Assembly. The Act spelt out categorically the conduct of the 
soldiers and the way they are to behave wherever they are. If you
 join the military, that Act is to guide you and your conduct. If you go

prescribed for the Act you violated will come on you. So the 
military did not just wake up one day and say that they are going to 
kill Mr. A or Mr. B." <br />

Nigerian Labor Congress has condemned the death sentence. Speaking through the Acting President of the 
Union, Promise Adewusi, the NLC described the verdict as unacceptable 
and advised that the verdict be converted to a more tolerable and 
acceptable one</div>

 expect that the Military Council or the appropriate authority, whose 
responsibility it is to review sentences of this nature, should commute 
this sentence to a more tolerable or acceptable one.”. </blockquote>
He said the

 sow the seed of a major security problem in the armed forces.

 Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on September 22, 2014 
arraigned one Musa Yunusa alias Yassa Mustapha Aliyu before Justice 
Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court on one count charge of 
obtaining money by false pretense. The
 accused allegedly obtained the sum of N100, 000 (One Hundred Thousand 
Naira Only) from one Abdulkadir Abbas under the guise that he had power 
voltage regulators to sell to him.</span></span></div>

charge reads, “that you Musa Yunusa a.k.a Yassa Mustapha Aliyu sometime 
in March 2012 in Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of the High Court of 
Kaduna State with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N100,000 (One 
Hundred Thousand Naira only) from one Abdulkadir Abbas by falsely 
representing that you have a power voltage regulator (PVR) and capable 
of securing and delivering same to him which pretence you knew to be 
false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1 (1)(a) of 
the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and 
punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act”.</span></span></div>

Retired Police boss kills self, wife and son in Ogun state

A retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1491588844" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Sunday</span></span>
 Isokpehi<span style="font-size: x-small;">,</span> who at one time served at the Lagos state police command 
anti-robbery squad, on Saturday September 20th, killed himself, his wife 
Gladys and their son at their Sango Ota, Ogun state residence after a 
heated argument with his wife.<br />

 to reports, the former police boss and his wife began fighting when 
they returned home from a wedding on Saturday after he accused her of 
disgracing him at the wedding by getting drunk.</div>

The woman reportedly denied being drunk and before anyone could stop the
 couple, they started fighting. Seeing that his
 wife was overpowering him, the retired police boss went 
for his pump action riffle and shot his wife and then shot their son who
 had been trying to separate them. Seeing the gravity of the crime he'd 
committed, Isokpehi reportedly turned the gun on 
himself.<br />

After the unfortunate incident, neighbours told police that the couple fought regularly.</div>

 the sad incident, the Ogun state Police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, 
said the bodies of the all three have been deposited at the hospital
 for autopsy. He said the police will carry out a detailed 
investigation.</div>
